Tears stream down my face
as I drop the cinderblock.
My gaze is shattered by a sudden
flood
of water and terror.
My ego falls through my feet
and my grip
loosens.
The haunting pulse
of my blood
wrenches
and ceases
like the tide.
I settle myself down
once I realize that I turn,
turn
like the cog of a machine.
Before I slip into the black,
I taste the breath of life
on the edge of my face
and smile.
